Provided by AGPThe Benghazi-based government said in a statement that, in line with what it described as regulatory arrangements between Libya and Egypt, individuals from other nationalities would not be allowed to cross land border points.
It stated:
“In accordance with the regulatory laws and rules between the two brotherly countries (Libya and Egypt), we would like to stress unequivocally that no citizens of countries other than Libya or Egypt will be allowed to pass through the land border crossing,"
The announcement came as part of ongoing movement involving the Global Sumud Flotilla, whose participants have reportedly been waiting near the coastal city of Sirte for several days.
Despite restricting passage for foreign activists, the eastern Libyan authorities expressed support for humanitarian efforts directed toward Gaza and indicated willingness to facilitate aid delivery through the Libyan Red Crescent.
According to reports, members of the convoy had earlier formed a delegation to engage with officials at a checkpoint near Sirte in an attempt to resolve the situation and continue their journey.
The statement reaffirmed that foreign participants in the convoy would not be permitted to proceed through territory controlled by the eastern-based authorities.
